The Logic of English (LOE) curriculum is based on the Science of Reading and a systematic, multi-sensory approach that teaches students the 74 basic phonograms and 30 spelling rules that explain 98% of English words. The core philosophy is to remove the idea of "sight words" and provide students with logical, reliable tools to master literacy. LOE offers two main, distinct programs designed for different age groups: Foundations (focused on beginning readers) and Essentials (focused on older or struggling students, and deep skill mastery).
The Foundations program is a complete, four-level (A–D) language arts curriculum designed for young students, typically ages 4 through 7 (Pre-K to Grade 2). The emphasis in Foundations is on reading and handwriting, integrating phonics, reading practice, spelling, and initial grammar concepts. Lessons are highly multi-sensory and engaging, incorporating dozens of playful games, activities, and controlled readers appropriate for young, "wiggly" learners. The program is flexible and typically takes two to three years to complete, with levels A and B focusing heavily on basic phonograms and handwriting before moving into more advanced reading and rules in levels C and D.
The Essentials program is designed for ages 8 to adult, including students who need a more rapid review, those who struggle with spelling, or those seeking an advanced, systematic understanding of English spelling and grammar. While it teaches all the same phonograms and rules as Foundations, Essentials goes much deeper with concepts, focusing heavily on spelling mastery, advanced grammar, and morphology (vocabulary). Essentials covers the material in a single, 30-unit course structure that can be repeated two or three times using differentiated Level A, B, and C application activities to increase complexity and mastery.
